Bob Carpenter began his broadcasting career in 1976 with Radio PBP for the Tulsa Oilers, the St. Louis Cardinals triple crown affiliate. He has since enjoyed a very successful career as a broadcaster. Between 1982 and 1988, Carpenter covered a variety of events for the USA Network, including basketball, football, boxing, pro soccer, tennis, and golf. In 1988, Bob signed on with ESPN, handling play-by-play of Saturday night Prime Time College Football and then studio hosting the College Gameday and the College Football Scoreboard shows. Bob is noted for his work with MLB. He began his connection to profession baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1984. Since then, he has worked for the Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, and the Texas Rangers. ESPN obtained the rights to Major League Baseball in 1990, and since then, Bob has done play-by-play of more MLB games then any network announcer in the nation. A frequent public speaker, Carpenter is active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Tulsa and St. Louis, has emceed functions for the Tulsa Area United Way and Union Schools Education Foundation, and has served as corporate spokesman for Phillips Petroleum and Hilti International. Currently, Bob has a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals and ESPN to travel the country covering his two favorite sports--MLB and college basketball.
