2011 Emcee - John Holcomb

John Holcomb is a two-time winner of the Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year award and the 2009 Tulsa Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. As Tulsa Sports Director for KOTV, he is a key player on the OKBlitz.com team. 

Holcomb began his career at KOTV in 1995, and since 1999 he has anchored the weeknight sportscasts for The News On 6 at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. and co-hosted "The Blitz” statewide along with Oklahoma City Sports Director Dean Blevins on Sunday nights immediately following local news on The News On 6 and NEWS 9. During high school football season, Holcomb also anchors “Friday Football Blitz,” Tulsa's high school football show.

 

He is entering his sixth season as the radio color analyst for OSU football, and his fourth season as the analyst for OSU men's basketball on the Cowboy Sports Network. He has also done play-by-play work for Cox high school football and basketball broadcasts.

 

He's covered some of the biggest events in sports including Super Bowls, BCS

Championship games, Final Fours, and the US Open and PGA Championship at

Tulsa’s Southern Hills Country Club.  

 

Holcomb came to the News on 6 in Tulsa in 1995 after spending three years in Amarillo as the sports director at KFDA-TV. Before arriving in the Texas panhandle, he was the weekend sports anchor at KSWO-TV in Lawton. He began his television career almost 22 years ago as a news reporter at KXII-TV in Sherman, Texas.

 

He worked at radio station KGFF in Shawnee and at the Oklahoma News Network after graduation. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree in Journalism in 1988.

 

Holcomb loves basketball, golf, tennis, and, in his words, "about anything else that requires some coordination without total physical exhaustion." He says, “It's really a privilege to work in an area of the country where there are such quality people who just happen to be so passionate about sports."
